Central America
Prior to becoming a pest
management consultant, grain loss research was conducted in El Salvador in both the Ilobasco
and San Juan Opico areas with cooperating farmers and in conjunction the Seeds
Laboratory at CENTA. These work
experiences formed part of the basis for his contributions to the book Postharves Grain Loss Assessment Methods
which was developed and compiled by K.L.Harris and C.J.Lindblad and 21 others,
including Dr. Ted and published under a grant from the Office of Nutrition
within USAID.
Working as a consultant on gain
management evaluation projects, rural field site visits related to gain
preservation systems utilized in the region have been conducted in Costa Rica, El
Salvador, Guatemala
and Honduras.
Technical presentations have
been provided in Guatemala
on stored grain management and pesticide safety issues.
In Belize,
during a month long consultancy based out of Punta Gorda, Belize,
activities focused on improvement of grain management technologies and
pesticide safety issues. This work has
been with sponsorship from USAID.
Work on effective use of
insect light traps for industrial settings has been sponsored by PestWest for work with Truly Nolan International franchises in Guatemala, along with those in Costa Rica and Panama.
In Panama, multiple staff trainings
have been provided for the Truly Nolan International franchise related to
trapping of insects with insect light traps and a wide variety of other
topics. Industrial and urban site visits
with a variety of food processors, country clubs and commercial centers have
also been conducted.
