along with client visits to provide field assistance related to specific
flying insect management issues. These
activities were sponsored by PestWest, Ossett, West Yorkshire, UK
Argentina
Over the last 15 years, it has been our distinct pleasure to
assist the growth of urban pest management in this country through numerous
technical presentations in Spanish. This
work has been with local and internationally based chemical manufacturers, food
processors and pest control firms in support of improved pest management
activities. Talks have been provided in
seven different locations throughout the country on a wide variety of topics at
a large number of seminars. Particular
focus has been on the 12 components of our IPM programs and how these
components can be effectively adapted to a wide variety of pest
situations. He also has promoted the participation of
other technical and business specialists from Mexico
and the USA at programs in Argentina and
is pleased to see continuation such international cooperation.
Site visits and evaluations have been conducted at a large
number of food processing facilities, grain handlers, grocery stores, meat
processors and others related to IPM programs, especially as relate to ant,
cockroach, fly and rodent management issues.
Sponsorship for these activities have been from Argentine
and international sources.
Dr. Ted was inducted into the Scientific Consulting Group (Consejo Consultivo
Cientifico) for CAECP (Camera Argentina de Empresas de Control de Plagas) and
he was the only individual who did not reside in Argentina to be included in this
specialized group.

Uruguay
Since 1996, Ted has provided
a number of technical presentations in support of firms based in Argentina and
England along with visits to hospitals, supermarkets and food processors in
support of local pest management operations. Other sponsorship enabled his work with a
local firm, providing training sessions and support activities with their
numerous local clients, especially supermarkets.
Paraguay
Having lived as a Peace Corps Volunteer for just over three
years, Ted always has a special part of his heart reserved for the people of
this country. During his volunteer work
in the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, National University of
Asuncion, San Lorenzo, Paraguay he developed and taught an agricultural
entomology laboratory for third year students during their five year
program. More details about his
activities during this work can be found in his multi-page resume located elsewhere
on this site.
Since becoming a consultant in 1984, he has returned many,
many times to Paraguay where he has made various presentations and visited
industrial clients in support of local pest control firms. He has also given special presentations at
the College of Agriculture. Basic topics
have focused on urban pest management, the 12 components of his IPM system, and
ways to reduce pesticide use in urban and industrial situations.
In 1984, he was again named “Colaborador Distinguido” for
his continued entomological, scientific and technical contributions to the
College of Agriculture in Paraguay. In
1990, he was inducted as Honorary Member / Socio Benemerito into the Paraguayan
Entomological Society for distinguished contributions to the development of
entomology in Paraguay.
Brasil
In late October 1984, having recently formed his consulting
operation, Dr. Ted presented a paper based on
trapping of the lesser grain bored during the Second Senimario Latin-Americano
de Perdidas Postcosecha (Second Latin American Seminar on Post-Harves
Losses) in Vicosa, Minas Gerais, Brasil.
It was after this meeting that Ing. Agro. Calixto Him sent the GRANOVSKY ASSOCIATES MOLA, hand-made by
Cuna Indians in Panama, to Dr. Ted. This
MOLA, now specially framed by Nancy Granovsky, currently hangs in our Bryan offices, with copies
of this colorful image on this web-site, calling cards, entry signs and on some
promotional literature. This MOLA is a
special recognition of our personal and professional connections with our Latin
American neighbors.
In 1996, the first EXPO*PRAG was held in Sâo Paulo, Brasil
and Dr Ted presented programs on pest management in areas of risk and the
biology and control of cockroaches. It
was during this conference he met Maria Claudia Toledo Piza (later to become
his second wife).
Over recent years, technical presentations have been
provided in nine different cities throughout Brasil. Many of these presentations were conducted as
part of market evaluation surveys conducted for Specialty Products Consultant, LLC a firm operated by Gary Curl in Mendham, NJ. Other presentations have been with the
support of many other local or international pest control firms, distributors
and / or chemical & equipment manufactures.
A significant number of food processing facilities, candy manufacturers,
bottling firms, packaging companies, pharmaceutical firms and supermarkets have
also been visited to assist with pest management issues. Work in support of PestWest insect light
traps has also been conducted in Brasil.
Five years of termite research has been conducted in Coptotermes
infested homes, in direct cooperation with local pest control providers and
termite specialists. Dr. Ted has also written the Preface for a book about termites in urban
environments, “The Termite and The City”
authored by Sidney Milano and Luis Roberto Fontes and published in 2002, São
Paulo, Brasil.
